"My mission is to support desired behavior change, to live your best life being you."
Shridhevi Veerappan, BCBA
My Story
I am a Board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) and a K-12 licensed special educator.
I specialize in improving family dynamics through strengthening parent-child relationships, offering guidance for addressing challenging behaviors, stress, and anxiety, and providing specialized support for individuals with Autism and OCD. “My passion is to support desired behavior change, to live your best life being you.”
I am all about inclusivity, providing services to neurodiverse, neurotypical populations and embracing diverse cultural backgrounds. In my practice, I prioritize compassion, trauma-assumed care, and cultural humility to ensure a supportive and respectful environment.
I use a variety of evidence-based tools such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), Mindfulness practices and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) tailored to individual needs.
I thrive on constant learning and bring it to my practice. The last 2 decades have given me a range of expertise in diverse domains such as architecture, developmental psychology, applied behavior analysis and special education. Living in different parts of the world such as India, United Kingdom and the US has provided a unique perspective of different values and belief systems. I look forward to getting to know and work with you!

What is ACT?

-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aims to help individuals accept difficult experiences and emotions, while also committing to making positive changes in their lives.
-
ACT is an evidence based approach that is grounded in Relational Frame Theory which is a subsect of Clinical Applied Behavior Analysis. This method is used to help individuals of all ages cope with a range of emotional challenges, such as anxiety, OCD, trauma, grief, and more.
-
ACT is based on the idea that suffering is a natural part of the human experience, and that efforts to avoid or eliminate painful thoughts and emotions can actually make them worse. Instead, ACT encourages individuals to embrace their emotions and experiences, and to focus on developing a sense of psychological flexibility that allows them to live in accordance with their values and goals.

BEing yoU does not accept insurance. Here is why:

Lack of privacy and confidentiality
If you're concerned about confidentiality or potential long-term consequences, it may be worth considering treatment options that don't involve using insurance. When a therapist accepts insurance, they are required to disclose your diagnosis and treatment notes to the insurance company in order to receive payment. This can compromise your privacy and give others access to your private health information.

Unintended Consequences
In addition to privacy concerns, using insurance to pay for treatment can also have unintended consequences. For instance, insurance companies may only cover treatment for certain mental health diagnoses, leaving those seeking treatment for personal growth or exploration without coverage. This can force the therapist to provide a diagnosis that the patient doesn't actually have, potentially leading to higher insurance premiums.

Treatment Limitations
Furthermore, insurance companies may limit the types of treatment methods that can be used, which can limit the effectiveness of treatment. Ultimately, it's important to carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of using insurance to pay for treatment, and to weigh those against other options that may provide greater privacy and flexibility.
Treatment cost will be determined after initial consultation. There is a sliding scale rates for individuals experiencing financial hardship. Kindly be open and honest about your needs. This will help sustain and grow my practice.
